They work in the rain.
I got the car all dolled up to take some pics when the skies opened up with cold rain. Looking back at the pics, they aren’t too shabby!

The Gathering, Dobson, NC at Shelton Vineyards 2006
The Triumph Club of the Carolina’s held its annual Gathering this year at Shelton Vineyards. It was a swell turn-out despite the dreary (typically English) weather. My Spider was not in attendance - I just got the thing inspected, but I felt the car needed some more mechanical attention to make it to my home [...]

A 7 Passes State Inspection
The impossible has happened! The Spider has passed the North Carolina State Safety and Emissions Inspection!
And just to prove this miracle to the masses, I snapped a pic of it.
One more Triumph saved from the crusher.
And, the car was running in the rain! Another myth dispelled.

Next Step; state safety inspection
I talked to a few safety inspectors here in North Carolina about the issues surrounding restoring a TR7 and its smog system. A lot of my worries were put to rest because the car is over the 25 year limit on smog standards. Most of their real concerns are that the brakes work, lights work [...]

Firing Order Is Important!
So I am looking and debugging and thinking and wondering why the Hell this thing won’t start. well, it turns out the previous owner switched the firing order completely wrong. I am surprised the car could run at all. My guess is the extreme timing changes was made by the previous owner the make up [...]

It lives. IT LIVES!!!!
Today was a good day.
I got the car to start today and all was well with the world. I drove it around a bit and but alas the car was running rough. No torque and a huge lack of power. Need to work on that.
Some of the things I thought were problems weren’t. The headlamps [...]

Closer and closer…
Yesterday, I sprayed copious amounts of carb cleaner into the ZS’s and went to bed.
This morning, the car started and spluttered and ran for a few seconds. The good thing about this is that gas vapor can be seen coming out of the carb after the motor stops turning. This means that the fuel is [...]

Great progress has been made!
It was a long and rainy winter and today was the first chance I had to get back to the Spider.
The new fuel pump was replaced and it worked great. I will need to replace the fuel line going into the pump however, and while I am at it, a fuel filter is on the [...]

Summer is coming!
I just keep telling myself that there is no such thing as global warming, despite the fact that it was 84 degrees in North Carolina on March the 13th!
Now, I can go back to getting the Spider rolling!

Fuel Pump Issues
Yet another holiday used in the wonderful pursuit of British Sports Car Maintenance.
We started with my neighbor Malcom (the previous owner of my Spider)….
We got his 78 Spitfire going after about 2 years of storage. We also got his 80 TR7 at least to turn over… no slack miracle there.
Then we turned our attention to [...]
