Books For Soldiers

I appeared in Second Life last week for a taping of The Late Show with Angelico Babii.

My avatar name is StormBear Hitchcock and he was the last guest of the night. We discussed the the creation of Books For Soldiers and the technology used to bring Books For Soldiers to Second Life.

Angelico’s show is part of the MBC’ (Metaverse Broadcasting Company) 1600 in-world screens and the show is seen throughout Second Life and is also available on the web. If the below player doesn’t work for you, you can also see the show HERE.

If This Be Treason is now in the capable hands of Christine Hall, the editor of Alternative Approaches.

This past year has been a wild one. Town Called Dobson has taken off faster than I could of imagined and so has Books For Soldiers. Treason started out as a culture war blog. I just had had enough of pharmacists refusing to dispense women birth control. That combined with Bush’s horrific performance as President, Patrick Henry’s quote concerning King George, “If this be treason, make the most of it” seemed the perfect title of the blog.

But I have no time to tend the blog anymore. Only so many hours in the day, and as much as I want to deny that, it is sadly true.

So cruise over to treason and drop a comment or two.

Yeah, BFS won the James Patterson PageTurner Award for our efforts to promote literacy and readership of books.

Feel the love!

I got a wonderful phone call today and there will be some spectacular news being announced on Friday for BooksForSoldiers.com.

Look for it!

BTW, did you know BFS built the largest English language library in the Middle East during the first year of the Iraq war? BFS and a soldier stationed at the Baghdad Airport set up a library for troops in the field to borrow books, DVDs, CDs and video games when the came to town for mail and supplies. BFS volunteers sent him cases of books daily and after the year was up, it was the largest English language library in the Middle East.
