Triumph TR7 Spider

It was a great weekend for a British car show and this weekend was The Gathering - the annual event of the Triumph Club of the Carolinas.

I arrived in Mount Airy on Friday ready for some lunch and a bit of a rally. We all dropped into a local Ruby Tuesdays for a quick bite then it was off for the rally. It was a fun rally to drive. The rally sheet had clues along the way for you to fill in as your went. Since I was solo, I think I got two clues… well, at least one.

The rally took us out to the east end of Mt. Airy and up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The photo above was from that leg. We spent about 10 miles on the Parkway and exited at Orchard Gap, then it was back down the hill.

Saturday was just as terrific as Friday. It was wonderful for everyone except Bruce. He had a bad day and the turkey he hit, well, it wasn’t pretty according to Bruce. The turkey feathers protruding from the grill of his TR250 were a testament to the earlier, ugly events. A word of prayer was said for the departed turkey and word has it Bruce got a visit from the whiskey fairy when he got home.

Some of the show highlights for me was an Austin 40 that drove down from West Virginia, the Allard that roared to life on the hour it seemed like and the nicest Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite I have ever seen.

There were a passel of superb E Types in the Jaguar Paddock as well as perfect XK 140s. Amazing.

The E Types were so wonderful, the thought passed through my head about starting a Jag project…. Nah.
